Finding the Right Record
Use the route that matches the Montgomery record in question:
- Ownership or address records: use the Montgomery street directory
- Printed volumes and older names: consult the Montgomery city directory collections
- One named person: follow the Montgomery resident lookup method
- Custodian contacts: review the Montgomery resident record offices
- Municipal files not online: contact Montgomery City Clerk, 103 North Perry Street, Montgomery, AL 36104, at 334-625-2096; the stated inspection window is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Focused city requests are handled under the Alabama Open Records Act, principally Ala. Code ยงยง36-12-40 and 36-12-41. The City Clerk requires an Alabama citizen's complete contact details and a specific description of the existing record.
